Modalities and targets

Match the model to how your drug works, not just its target

Patient-derived and cell line models matched to your drug's mechanism, target expression and treatment history, with the data behind each match shown before you commit to a study.

Overview

A model that fits the target can still miss the mechanism

An ADC, a radiopharmaceutical and a T-cell engager ask different things of a model. Target density, antigen heterogeneity, treatment history and an intact immune system can each decide whether a study tells you something useful or only looks as if it did.

Pick your modality or target below to see what to check first, and the data we can put behind your program. Each card links to a dedicated page where one exists, and to a scientist where it does not yet.

Targets

Targeted programs need models that show resistance

KRAS and RAS pathway inhibitors

RAS inhibitors do not fail uniformly: some tumors never respond, others respond and then relapse. We benchmarked adagrasib in our PDX models before its 2022 FDA approval, and now screen KRAS-mutant models against daraxonrasib, with resistance modeled under continuous drug pressure.

EGFR and bypass resistance

Resistance to EGFR inhibitors is rarely one mechanism, and c-MET amplification is a common route around EGFR blockade. Test combinations and next-line agents in PDX models from patients who progressed on EGFR therapy, with mutation and copy-number data for each model.

FAQ

What teams ask before choosing models

Short answers on how modality changes model choice, with a dedicated page behind each where one exists.

Champions has dosed the approved clinical ADCs across a large set of patient-derived models, so you can shortlist from in-vivo response already available — models ranked by response and annotated with target expression, prior treatment, and molecular profile. When your program is ready, Champions runs your ADC in the models you select, with clinical-ADC comparators alongside. Ex-vivo payload-sensitivity screening, flow, and RNA-seq add mechanism and resistance context.

Not on its own. Standard PDX mice have no human T cells, and most T-cell engagers bind only human CD3. Humanized models add human immune cells. PBMC models deliver mature T cells quickly, which suits rapid efficacy studies. CD34+ models build a broader human immune system that supports longer studies. Ex vivo co-culture with human immune cells gives the fastest readout on tumor killing and cytokine release. In every format, selecting models by target-antigen expression is key.

Choose models by their annotated expression of your target. That's usually a CDX→PDX path: fast validation and screening in CDX, then efficacy and biodistribution in clinically annotated PDX when resistance biology or translational confidence drive the call. Uptake is imaged by SPECT/CT, cross-validated against terminal biodistribution.

Often, when resistance is part of the question. Naive models can show primary resistance, but only pretreated models carry resistance that developed in a patient on therapy. Choose from osimertinib-pretreated EGFR-mutant models, or KRAS-mutant models with in vivo daraxonrasib response data, each with treatment history and mutation, copy-number and expression data.

Tell us what you're developing

Your modality or target doesn't need to appear above. Tell us your modality, target, the models you are considering and the decision the study has to support, and a scientist will suggest models and a study design that fit.

  • A scientist reviews your modality and target

  • You hear back directly, not from a sales queue

  • Suggested models and study design come before any commitment
