Radiopharmaceuticals have moved from a niche modality to one of the fastest-growing areas of oncology drug development, with increasing interest in targeted radioligand therapies, alpha- and beta-emitting isotopes, and imaging-guided approaches to patient selection. As the field matures, drug developers need both a solid grounding in the underlying science and practical insight into how to translate early candidates into the clinic.

In this webinar, Henry VanBrocklin, PhD, and Denis Beckford-Vera, PhD, will guide attendees through the radiopharmaceutical landscape in two parts: a foundational overview of the science and current therapeutic approaches, followed by a closer look at how Champions Oncology supports radiopharmaceutical development.

Henry VanBrocklin, PhD, is a Professor in Residence, Director of the Radiopharmaceutical Research Program in the Center for Molecular and Functional Imaging (CMFI) at the University of California, San Francisco China Basin, and he is a Joint Faculty Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. VanBrocklin obtained his PhD in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry from Washington University, St. Louis in 1990, and he completed a two-year postdoctoral program at the University of Illinois, Urbana in 1992. He maintains an active radiotracer research program in addition to providing tracers for collaborative basic science and translational clinical research. His research interests include short-lived radioisotope production to the creation of fluorine-18 and carcbon-11 labeling chemistry strategies for new radiotracer preparations and applications.

Dr. VanBrocklin is one of the core faculty for the Master's in Biomedical Imaging (MSBI) program and a member of the MSBI executive committee.

Dr. VanBrocklin was awarded the Alexander Hollaender Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Energy for developing positron-labeled estrogens, progestins, and androgens for tumor imaging. He has 70 published research articles.

Denis Beckford-Vera PhD, is a radiopharmaceutical R&D leader with 20+ years of experience advancing novel imaging agents and targeted radiotherapies from discovery to clinic.

He specializes in immunoPET and alpha/beta-emitting therapeutics, with recognized achievements in gp120, CD46- and CD33-directed radioimmunotherapies.

Denis has built and led high-performing teams, established laboratories, and guided programs through IND-enabling studies and first-in-human trials. He holds a PhD in Nuclear Chemistry, a miniMBA from Rutgers, and executive training from Wharton.

He is the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and U.S. patents, blending deep scientific expertise with strategic leadership in precision oncology.
